Prison Banned Books Week 2025

BANNED BOOK WEEK – MATCHED BOOK DONATIONS!

It’s Banned Books Week and prisons and jails ban more books than all public schools and libraries combined. Resist prison book banning and support incarcerated readers by purchasing a book (or two or more) from one of our partner indie bookstores!

From October 5th – 11th, Hull Family Foundation will match up to $1000 of all book purchases for Midwest Books to Prisoners from each of these five local bookstores we’ve partnered with: First Aid Comics, Quimby’s, Tangible Books, Skunk Cabbage Books, and Pilsen Community Books!

You can purchase a book for us in store at First Aid Comics in Hyde Park, Quimby’s in Wicker Park, and Tangible Books in Bridgeport, and either in store or online from Skunk Cabbage Books and Pilsen Community Books (see QR codes or links in bio for our online wishlist registries, though feel free to purchase a book not on the list!). Just be sure to note that your purchase is for Midwest Books to Prisoners.

Thank you in advance for your support, love & solidarity to you all!!! 🤗📚💌📬🥰

ONE NIGHT BOOK CLUB for PRISON BANNED BOOKS WEEK!

Friday, 10/24/25, 7-9p, @ Pilsen Community Books: 1102 W 18th St Chicago, IL

Come out for a one-night book club where we’ll read from IDOC-banned book “Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women” by Victoria Law, and hear from currently & formerly incarcerated community members on their experiences with- and resistance to- censorship and repression behind bars.

We’ll engage in small group conversations, get up to speed on the current nonsense happening in IDOC with mail scanning, censorship and proposed prison rebuilds, and share ways to take action & be in solidarity with folks inside.

Books are provided for formerly incarcerated folks and we’ll have reading materials to share. Those who are able are also encouraged to purchase a copy in advance, available from PCB!

“Examining daily struggles against appalling prison conditions and injustices, “Resistance” documents both collective organizing and individual resistance in the U.S.”
